2019 Competition Details

Date: Saturday, August 17th, 2019

Start / Finish Location: Ferry Beach, Charlevoix, Michigan

Watercraft Types: Kayak, Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP), Canoe

Cost Per Watercraft (single or double): $25 by August 9th, $35 after August 9th

Check-In (Start Time Assignment & Predicted Time Submission): 7:30 am – 9:00 am at Ferry Beach, August 17

Start Time: First group commences at 9:00 am, subsequent groups every 5 to 10 minutes, last group commences at 10:00 am

End Time: Course must be cleared by 1 pm

4 Mile Course: 2 miles heading south from Ferry Beach along the shoreline and 2 miles back

2 Mile Course (Same course as 2-mile, but shorter): 1 mile heading south from Ferry Beach along the shoreline and 1 mile back

Prizes & Awards: All participants will receive an event t-shirt. The top participants closest to their time receive prizes. Winner receives the Paddle Award. Make sure to stick around for all the fun at Ferry Beach while everyone finishes the course!


Pre-register on-line, or in person at the Charlevoix Area Community Pool by noon with our downloadable Registration Form by August 16;


On-site registration 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM at Ferry Beach the day of the event

 Notes: Participating children aged 6-14 must be on a watercraft with an adult. All participants on watercraft must sign a waiver. Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent/legal guardian. Sorry - children under age 6 may not participate.

  • Please place your watercraft at your assigned group’s designated staging area prior to start.

  • Please…obviously… no time pieces allowed on the course.

  • All contestants / parents and guardians must sign and complete a release and waiver prior to race entry. Download here.

  • All participants are required to wear a Coast Guard Type III wearable personal flotation device (PFD) during the entire time on the water, and must start and finish with it on in order to qualify.

  • All SUPs must have a leash on board.

  • A whistle will be provided for each watercraft in case of emergency, and should be secured to a PFD.

  • All participants must have contest identification attached.

  • Watercrafts may be single occupancy or double occupancy. All participants of the watercraft must cross the finish line to be counted finished.

  • All watercraft must remain in the water and participants must follow the course buoys until finished otherwise your entry will be disqualified.

  • Please clear your watercraft from the finish area once you are done for other participants to finish.

  • All watercraft must stay out of the Ferry Beach designated swim area.

  • Course buoys are located to allow public access to boat launch adjacent to Ferry Beach. Participants should stay on course near the buoys (which are placed 150 yards away from shoreline) and not block this public boat launch access.

  • All participants must complete the course by 1 pm. Spotter boats will provide time warnings.
